Experience the Magic of Bokashi One Effective Microorganisms

A Natural Solution for Waste Transformation

Introducing Bokashi One Mix, your ticket to a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to managing food scraps and enriching your soil. Proudly made in Australia, this extraordinary mix combines wheat bran, rice husks, and sawdust, all lovingly infused with a group of micro-organisms found in nature. It's the secret ingredient your waste has been craving!

Bursting with Life, Made in Australia

Our Bokashi One Mix is a product of passion and dedication. Crafted year-round by our team in NSW, Australia, it arrives at your doorstep teeming with life and ready to work its magic on your food scraps. The dry components of the mix serve as both a carrier and a food source for these remarkable micro-organisms. While dormant in the packaging, they spring back to life when introduced to your waste. We take pride in the thorough drying process that precedes bagging, ensuring a shelf life of at least 2 years. Controlled conditions during drying keep the microbes healthy and primed for action, guaranteeing the effectiveness of your Bokashi mix.

A Breath of Fresh Air for Your Waste

Say goodbye to unpleasant odors! Bokashi One Mix excels at fermenting waste in the Bokashi One™ Bucket, effectively neutralizing those unwanted smells. But the magic doesn't stop there. When you bury the waste in your soil, our mix takes center stage, accelerating the breakdown process and infusing life and nutrients into the earth. Your garden will thank you for this nutrient-rich gift!

Beyond Waste Management

But wait, there's more! Bokashi One Mix isn't just for waste management; it's also a fantastic compost starter. Elevate your composting game and watch your garden flourish like never before.

Specifications

Soil Amendment:

  • To use Bokashi as a soil amendment, 2-4% of soil volume is ideal.

Topdressing:

  • As a topdressing (very effective during the bloom phase), you should apply a handful of Bokashi to cover your topdressing. Due to the vigour of microbial populations and the resulting increase in nutrient availability when using Bokashi, we recommend you amend your soil slightly more frequently using the OGS Complete 'Nutrient Kit', to supplement the increased activity and yield.

Composting Agent:

  • We recommend that you bury fresh food waste into a compost pile and sprinkle with Bokashi before covering. Its recommended to put the food waste atleast 6 inchs deep into the compost pile or using a Bokashi compost Bucket (500g Bokashi / 20L waste bucket).

Step By Step Guide To Composting With Bokashi One

  1. Position the plastic grate on the ledge near the bottom of the bucket with the knob upright. Make sure the tap is in the off position.
  2. Place your kitchen waste in the bucket and sprinkle a handful of Bokashi One Mix over every layer of waste. As a guide, use approximately 1 tablespoon of mix for every cup of waste. Use more Bokashi One Mix when adding high-protein foods, eg meat, fish, cheese and eggs.
  3. Check that the lid is closed tightly at all times.
  4. Regularly drain the Bokashi juice produced using the tap at the base of the bucket.
  5. Repeat this layering process until the Bokashi One bucket is full.
  6. Once full, the waste is ready to be buried.
  7. If you have two Bokashi One buckets, begin the process again in your second bucket, allowing the contents of the first bucket to continue to ferment. Continue to drain off the bokashi juice regularly.
  8. Wash your Bokashi One bucket after each use.

Note: the waste does not break down in the bucket; it is fermenting and will reduce in volume as it loses water content. Complete breakdown of the waste and the composting process occurs when it is buried in the soil

Q: What can I compost with Bokashi One?

A: Bokashi One composting is versatile and can handle a wide range of kitchen waste. You can compost nearly all kitchen scraps, including items that were once alive. However, it's best to avoid large bones and excessive liquids. Here are examples of what you can compost with Bokashi One:

  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Prepared foods
  • Cooked and uncooked meats and fish
  • Dairy products
  • Eggs
  • Bread
  • Coffee grounds
  • Tea bags
  • Wilted flowers
  • Tissues

Q: How should I bury Bokashi waste?

A: Burying Bokashi waste is a simple process that enriches your soil on a microbial level. Here's how to do it:

  1. Dig a hole or trench that is approximately 20-25cm (8-10 inches) deep in your garden or designated compost area.

  2. Add the Bokashi waste to the hole, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

  3. Mix some soil with the waste, covering it completely. This soil layer helps start the composting process and prevents odors.

  4. Once you've covered the waste with soil, there's nothing else to do but wait. Your soil will begin to benefit from the microbial activity.

For established gardens, you can dig the hole around plants or between rows of trees. However, be cautious with very young plants to prevent direct contact with the compost, as it can be acidic initially. The compost will neutralize after 7-10 days. It's best to wait for about 2 weeks before planting near the buried waste.

If you don't have space to dig a hole every time your Bokashi bucket needs emptying, you can create a dedicated Bokashi compost heap in a regular spot in your garden. Once the waste has fully broken down, you can use it as a nutrient-rich topsoil. Additionally, you can add Bokashi waste to a conventional compost bin if you have one.
